Here’s the chimney

A Christmas fingerplay.

Here’s the chimney (make a fist)
Here’s the top (hand on top)
Open the lid (lift hand)
And out Santa pops (stick up your thumb)

Rocking around the Christmas Tree

The original of this was recorded by Brenda Lee when she was just 13- so I am calling this a children’s song for the sake of this blog. I’ve roped the family in for a bit of a sing song too as my son did this at his school’s carol concert.

Rock on…..

Rocking around the Christmas Tree
At the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Every couple tries to stop
Rocking around the Christmas tree, let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we’ll have some pumpkin pie and we’ll do some carolling

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
The voices singing Let’s be jolly, Deck the Halls with boughs of holly

Rocking around the Christmas Tree, have a happy holiday
Everyone’s dancing merrily in the new old-fashioned way

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
The voices singing Let’s be jolly, Deck the Halls with boughs of holly

Rocking around the Christmas tree, let the Christmas spirit ring
Everyone’s dancing merrily in the new old-fashioned way

When Santa got stuck up the chimney

When Santa got stuck up the chimney
He began to shout
‘You girls and boys won’t get any toys
If you don’t get me out
My beard is black, there’s soot on my back
My nose is tickley too’
When Santa got stuck up the chimney, ‘atchoo! atchoo! atchoo!’

Little Jack Horner

Winter at Home CDLike everyone else at the moment, I’m jumping around, preparing for Christmas and feeling as if there aren’t enough hours in the day. So here’s another track from the Winter at Home CD.

Little Jack Horner, sat in a corner
Eating his Christmas pie.
He stuck in his thumb, and pulled out a plum
And said ‘what a good boy am I!’

Mary had a baby

A song from South Carolina which we sing every year when we go carol singing in Jigsaw. It’s on the Winter at Home CD too.

Mary had a baby, oh Lord
Mary had a baby, oh my Lord
Mary had a baby, oh Lord
The people keep a coming and the train done gone

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

A number one in 1949 and still loved today.

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glowed
All of the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph, join in any reindeer games
Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say
‘Rudolph with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?’
Then how the reindeer loved him, and they shouted out with glee
‘Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in history!’

I love little pussy

bookspineThe meaning of words change. Nothing can stop that. So this sweet little song is rarely sung. Enjoy it for what it is.

I love little pussy, her coat is so warm
And if I don’t hurt her she’ll do me no harm
So I won’t pull her tail, nor drive her away
But pussy and I very gently will play.
